Iain Dean’s multidisciplinary practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture and ceramics. With each he plays with the tactile nature of materials in works that are often abstract and playful. Colour, texture and form are important elements recently explored in his painted landscapes both real and imagined.
His work is held in private and public collections in Australia. Iain has exhibited internationally in Denmark, Sweden, Paris and New York. Recent group shows include The Land is Not Asleep with Andy Quilty and Yvonne Zago (2019) at Margaret River Gallery. Earlier shows have taken place in Perth and Melbourne.
Most recently he has been selected as a finalist for the 2015 Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize, Sydney NSW for his work Adult Comedy Action Drama. In 2014 he was the winner of the Black Swan National Portrait Prize, Perth WA for his work Pilar Mata Dupont and in 2013 was selected as a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize for his work Tell me lies and lullabies, but don’t tell me to change.
